University Rating Agency Statistics
There are ranking institutions that measure the number and quality of outputs from scientific research and collaborative work of universities, the quality of education offered to students in the current education and training ecosystem of universities, the employment rates of graduates and the level of recognition of universities with each other in the international community with different metrics and score systems.
Every year, over 30,000 higher education institutions worldwide are periodically scored and ranked on different criteria to rank academic institutions with different qualifications and sub-units of research/teaching with other institutions with equal conditions.
From 2004 to 2009, THE (Times Higher Education), QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), and US News and World Report have established themselves as highly prestigious worldwide ranking systems. There have also been some other institutions, such as URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance), created by the Middle East Technical University Informatics Institute to perform academic rankings by creating an interdisciplinary voluntary data system. The main-ranking organisations operating worldwide can be divided into two groups based on their data systematics.
- Rating Systems Requesting Institutional Data Entry: QS, THE World University Rankings, THE Impact, ARWU Shanghai Rankings, Clarivate Analytics, US News, UI Green Metric, Barrier-Free University, CoHE Monitoring and Evaluation
- Rating Systems that Do Not Require Institutional Data Entry: CWTS, Nature Index, Webometrics, SCIMAGO, U-Multirank, RUR, CWUR, NTU, URAP
The primary data sources of ranking organisations are Web of Science/Clarivate (ARWU/Shanghai, US News & Report, Leiden, NTU, URAP, RUR, CWUR) and Elsevier (THE, QS, SCIMAGO, Webometrics).
